FAQs About Building a Modular Home in California
Check out our FAQ page read more in-depth answers to the most commonly asked questions about modular homes.
Are modular homes allowed in California?
Yes, absolutely! Wherever a Single Family Residence can be built, Factory Built Housing (Modular) can be built. Both homes are built to the California Building Code, one is built on-site and one the other is built more efficiently and faster in a factory. California State law does not allow any city or county to prevent the building of a Modular home. They also can't impose any additional requirements on a modular home than they would on a site-built home.
Can I custom design my prefab home?
California Modular Houses is a design oriented company and we design new plans all the time. We are able to work with you to design any style of home that you desire. We can adapt existing plans from our Plan Collections or work with ourdesigners to create your dream home. Please note that custom designs take longer and cost more in a process that is already complicated. If you are on a tight budget we actively encourage you to choose a stock plan of ours.
